Special Papaya Pickles or Achara

Achara ala Bechay :)

Every time I see fresh green papayas at the Asian Store in Reno which is very seldom, I'd always buy one or two. The other time I was there I got lucky so I bought two big ones for this recipe.

I made 3 jars and gave them away thinking that I could buy fresh ones again during my Citizenship interview which I really did but I was too busy in my new home so the papayas just turned soft and bad in the corner of my kitchen. Sigh.

Anyway, this recipe is special because of its ingredients. I put ampalaya, string beans, of course carrots, among others. Pineapple is one of the ingredients too but I forgot to put some this time.

The recipe is here which has been  posted  already to my other blog 2 years ago.

Thanks for visiting!

Puto Cheese

soft and buttery

I made some today for my friend Ann.

Sharing the recipe which I got from a fellow girltalker.

You will need:

3 cups all purpose flour
1 1/2 cup white sugar
2  tbsp baking powder
3 eggs or egg white only- today I used egg whites
1/2 cup melted butter
3 cups fresh milk or evaporated milk
Eden cheese (for toppings)
puto mold (I got them from the Philippines)
steamer

Procedure:

1. Mix the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, sugar). Sift.
2. Put eggs, milk and butter. Mix the batter well.
3. Put the batter in small muffin pans and let it steam for 10 minutes or until inserted toothpick becomes clear.
4. Put cheese on top and let it steam again until the cheese melts.
